THE BOOK:

These are the threads that Towako Takamura, the up-and-coming young Japanese writer, weaves into a tale of unusual brilliance and great originality, a tale that is realistic and uncompromising, marked by the dramatic detailed realism that the harsh situation requires. THE BOOK:
The twins are still at home, not in the foreign university where everyone supposes them to be.  They are locked in a dark basement known only to their adoptive parents.

Minutes, hours, days and nights pass...  The twins are shut in two small cells, as identical as the girls themselves.  The cells are two narrow cages with scarcely room for the toilet and nowhere to stretch out and sleep. 

Their lives, until recently so happy and full of plans for the future, have suddenly become Hell on earth. 

Shut up in total darkness, they only see light when Señor or Señora Mendez go down to pay them a call.  And only then if the Señores decide to take the girls' hoods off! 

Hatred and lust flicker together in the twisted, criminal minds of the  Mendez, who have spent years planning every intimate detail of the training of their step-daughters...

This novel is a masterpiece by Lucas, arguably one of the most realistic and exciting authors in this style.  Set at the time of the Military Dictatorship, Twins in Hell is an extreme novel.

Lucas takes us into two different worlds: one is a dark, horrendous nightmare.  The other world, inhabited by the criminal adoptive parents, is a paradise for depraved criminals.

General Augusto Mendez and his wife find that their lives now revolve around the two adolescents, eighteen years old, locked up in the basement.  Two adolescents who for years have unconsciously fed the Mendez's perverted fantasies until they finally became reality...

Now the girls are all theirs, and nobody, anywhere, knows anything about it...

General Mendez and his wife spend the day planning what to do with the girls when they go down to them at night.  They imagine every detail of what they will do to the two delicious adolescent bodies waiting for them completely naked, cruelly chained, sadistically gagged and blindfolded by the hoods, waiting to be taken out of the cages to participate in the Mendez's most intimate and obscene fantasies...

The year is 2050. An asteroid hits Earth and causes a massacre on a planetary scale. Then comes a climatic change and the result is Chaos. Civilisation breaks down. Governments fall, power stations come to a halt, communications stop, there is no transport, no food ... The survivors organise themselves in tribes and begin a deadly struggle for survival.

Only one colony, Copernicus Penitentiary on Mars, remains intact. It is first human colony in space and it houses the worst criminals, sent into perpetual exile and sentenced to heavy manual labour.

When news of the catastrophe reaches them, the prisoners mutiny and take over the Martian settlement. They have spacecraft, sophisticated technology, weapons and an almost completed city. But they need one other thing: females.

A group of prisoners returns to Earth to hunt for the women who will be their slaves. These are violent men, criminals by nature, bitter men who satisfy their long-repressed instincts and quench their thirst for revenge by attacking the terrified survivors, the survivors of a society that once condemned them.

This story is full of sex and violence, a story in which the "splitasses" - as they call their sexy young catches - are mercilessly hunted down among the ruins of the cities and taken like cattle to Copernicus for the pleasure and solace of the new masters of the world. And the Masters are not satisfied with physically possessing the women ...

After a few weeks the prison cells hold a new kind of prisoner: scores of young women naked and shackled like cattle, trembling horrified waiting for their terrible destiny, a destiny far worse than death ...

Misfortune interrupted the Earth's peaceful stroll around the sun causing a disaster of cosmological proportions. It happened on the twenty-fourth of June 2049, midsummer, at a time of magic for all the Earth's cultures and religions, the shortest night, became the longest night that humanity would ever live. Some called it the Big Smash, others the Catastrophe, some the Apocalypse, the Cataclysm. But almost all ended up calling it the night of the fucking comet, even though it was a fucking asteroid.

Only one group of humans survived the disaster intact, a group who also continued to enjoy all the technological advances of the twenty-first century. It was a Martian penal colony, generally known as Copernicus. Here the most hardened criminals had been banished six years previously and condemned to hard labor in the worst penitentiary that human minds had ever conceived. Their mission, almost finished by that time, was to build humanity's first home off the Earth. A true dream city under a huge protective dome, where the future colonists would live and exploit the infinite riches of Mars.
